We’ve all heard the saying “homemade is always better” and it couldn’t be truer for pie crust. Have you ever tasted a store bought pie crust next to a homemade pie crust? There is absolutely no comparison!
And here is the great part, it is so easy to make! Yep, I’m serious. Not to mention it’s versatility. I use this pie crust for savory recipes like chicken pot pie AND sweet recipes like my Delicious Pumpkin Pie, apple pie, peach pie….you get the idea! One recipe, lots of options. That is my kinda cooking 😁.

Do you need special tools?
You can absolutely make this pie without any special tools. All you need is a bowl, a rolling pin, and a pie plate. Now, are there some tools to make mixing easier? Yep, but you don’t have to have them. Here are two tools I find useful in making pie crust, particularly when cutting in the butter…
You could also use a food processor to mix in the butter, but I prefer to use these tools instead.
Ingredients for homemade pie crust
- 1/2 to 1 cup of cold water
- 2 1/2 cups of unbleached all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 1/2 sticks of butter

Easy Homemade Pie Crust
Learn how to make a pie crust with this easy recipe. Store bought crust doesn’t even compare to this homemade version!
Ingredients
- 1/2 to 1 cup of cold water
- 2 1/2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1tsp sugar
- 1 1/2 sticks of cold butter
Instructions
- Add flour, salt, and sugar to a bowl and stir to combine.
- Cut butter into flour mixture.
- Add cold water, a little at a time, until dough comes together and forms a ball.
- Half the dough and form into two disc.
- Cover disc and place in refrigerator for about an hour.
- Once pie dough has chilled, pull out of fridge and roll out.
