I don’t know about you, but peach season offers all kinds of ways to preserve this delicious fruit! From peach jam to canning them whole, we like to stock up on peaches for those winter months when we are craving fresh fruit.
In fact, if you haven’t seen my blog post on an Easy Way to Can Peaches, check it out here. It is so simple, and I walk you through exactly what to do! And, I just so happen to have a handy, dandy video for all you visual learners out there, check that out here.
What is Peach Butter
This might be a good place to start. Peach butter really has nothing to do with butter, the dairy kind. However, it gets its name “butter” from the consistency at the end of cooking. Heard of apple butter? Well, this is the same exact concept.
What I love about peach butter, other than the taste, is that I can use all of my mushier, bruised peaches to make it. So, no waste! And I have a lot of bruised peaches from all the little hands in our house.
Ingredients in Peach Butter
Well, other than the obvious, peaches, there isn’t much else. This recipe has no added sugar, none, nada! Seems like sugar gets itself in everything, but not this. When the peaches are cooked over a long period of time, it really brings out the sweetness, so there is no need to add sugar.
Now, if you want to get creative, you can add a little shake of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. And sometimes I throw in a little ginger, when I’m feeling it, ya know? Other than that, just throw those peaches (peels and all) into the crockpot and let it do it’s thing.
