“It all began with that shoe on the wall…” No not really, but my 3 year old has had me read “Wacky Wednesday” (Dr. Seuss book) to him every day for the last two weeks.
For me it all began with a genuine fascination for all things old.
I was the girl that could watch Anne of Green Gables over and over again. I loved the way they dressed, I loved that they walked everywhere, I loved the rolling hills, and I loved Green Gables, oh that beautiful house!
Fast forward to several years later when I found myself newly married and with just enough experience in the kitchen to be dangerous. I was blessed to have a woman show me a few recipes and the success of cooking these handful of dishes left me pondering and searching for more. Google became my best friend as I searched for how to make this and how to make that.
Then there was the season where my husband and I lived overseas and I couldn’t find taco seasoning. So good ol’ Google saved the day and I thought, if I could actually make my own taco seasoning what else could I make from scratch?
This new desire to make everything “from scratch” let to another path. What if I could grow my own ingredients, preserve my own food, and raise my own meat!
My husband and I dreamed of moving to the country and learning to live off the land.
In 2018 our dream came true! We moved from a small house in the suburbs on less than 1/4 of an acre to a large farmhouse on 5 acres in the country. Thus began our journey. We have learned a ton along the way and I am here to share our successes and mishaps. Step by step, we have tackled everything from a large vegetable garden for a family of 8 to owning our own milking cow.
I am here to share with you the practical things we do to live more simply: from growing and preserving food, to homeschooling, raising our own meat, and how we make it all work! Come join me!
