Honeysuckle season is a big event at our house. It’s one of the joys of eating in season. You get excited over each new season, knowing it brings new flavors and smells.
When honeysuckle season hits, we are outside everyday picking these delicious flowers. I used to suck the honey from the bottom of the flower when I was kid. Am I the only one who did that??
Now as an adult, I prefer to capture the sweetness in a tea.
Honeysuckle tea is one of my favorite summer cold teas. It is so refreshing with a hint of sweetness, and surprise, it is also good for your body! Honeysuckle is a great source of nutrients, building up your immune system.

If you haven’t tried cold herbal teas yet, I highly recommend you do. It is what we drink all summer long. We often pick more than we need and dehydrate the rest for a winter tea.
This tea is super simple to make and takes little hands-on time. Plus, it gives you an excuse to get outside and enjoy the world around you.
How to make honeysuckle tea
First, start by picking a handful of honeysuckle. Place them in a jar and boil some water, enough to cover the honeysuckle.

Once the water has boiled, pour it over the honeysuckle and cover the jar. Let sit for at least 10 minutes or longer. I like to let mine rest until it has fully cooled.
Drain the honeysuckle, smashing them down to get the most juice out of them.
At this stage I like to add a touch of honey to the tea. My northern neighbor drinks it straight up, no honey. But that’s not how I roll. I like to squirt a little honey in my tea. After all, I am southern. So, do as you please.
Add ice to the juice and enough water to fill your jar, and enjoy.

How to dehydrate honeysuckles
If you would like to keep these honeysuckle all year long, try dehydrating them! This is a great way to boost your health in those winter months.
Honeysuckle is easy to dehydrate, you don’t even need a dehydrator or an oven. Just spread them on a plate and let sit on the counter until dry. It usually takes a least a day.
Once they are dry, store in a jar. Use a tsp of dried honeysuckle per cup of hot water.
