With the internet at our fingertips, it is easy to find a bread recipe in a matter of seconds. There are recipes for sandwich bread, dinner rolls, hamburger buns, hotdog buns, and the list goes on. This is great, but sometimes it can be overwhelming to have a recipe for each bread item.
What if you had a bread recipe that could be made into all of those things? My Quick and Easy Homemade Bread Recipe, is that recipe!
I don’t have time to sift through all my recipes to find the right one for my dinner. I mean, I have six children that are looming around the kitchen about an hour before supper. They hang out in the kitchen in the hopes that supper will be served early. I can’t be wasting minutes trying to find just the right recipe, I’m on the clock here!
But, with my Quick and Easy Homemade Bread Recipe, I can memorize one recipe and use it to make several bread items…enter the Quick and Easy Hamburger Buns.
Why make your own hamburger buns?
I started making my own hamburger buns several years ago. Honestly, after making them from scratch, I never went back. (I feel a song coming on.)
There is no competition between a fluffy, warm, flavorful hamburger bun versus those hamburger buns in plastic bags. You know, the ones that have been sitting on the shelf for awhile, sometimes smashed and with ingredients that you would never have in a normal kitchen.
Well, Amanda, when you put it that way…
When you make your own hamburger buns, you know exactly what goes into those buns. Not to mention, when I have spent an hour of my time making these babies, I have less of a desire to see them wasted. Trust me, they don’t get wasted (ask my kids).
Ingredients for Quick and Easy Hamburger Buns
- Quick and Easy Homemade Bread Recipe dough
- That’s it!!!
How to Make Quick and Easy Hamburger Buns
Start by following the directions in my Quick and Easy Homemade Bread Recipe. Mix up all the ingredients until a dough has formed.
Once the dough is formed, let it rest until doubled in size for about 20 minutes. When the 20 minutes is up, begin forming the hamburger buns.
This recipe makes about 24 hamburger buns. It might seem like a lot, but in our house, these buns go fast!
First, grab a small piece of dough and begin rolling it into a ball. You want it to be about the size of a golf ball.
Now, depending on the day, I might think a golf ball is larger or smaller. I’m not expecting you to measure it to an actual golf ball, unless that makes all the perfectionists out there feel better. Otherwise, by all means bring that golf ball into the kitchen.
Okay, back to the recipe. Take your golf ball dough and flatten it into a disc. Then, lay the flattened disk on a floured pan.
Here is a quick video on how I shape the hamburger buns…
When all of the buns have been formed , place a dish towel over the tops and let rise for another 20 minutes.
This would be a good time to preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
When the 20 minutes is over, or they have risen about a third more, place the pan on the middle rack of your oven.
Bake for 15 minutes or until tops are golden brown.
When they are finished baking, take them out of the oven and butter the tops.
I love this part. There is something special about seeing the butter drip down on the hamburger buns. It takes a dull hamburger bun and makes it glisten. The butter also keeps the tops nice and soft, pretty and practical.
If you can help it, let these cool before slicing them in half. They will be firmer and easier to slice. Also, the bread will have had time to finish cooking on the counter.
And with that, you have homemade, better than store bought, buns that have ruined your life forever. You have raised your standards of what a hamburger bun should taste like. Now, you will think twice about paying for those plastic bag counterparts. You’re welcome.

I made these today with einkorn flour. I ended up using about 5 1/2 cups of einkorn flour vs the 4 cups all-purpose. I can fix that next time by reducing the liquid. They still turned out and I liked that it was not a super long endeavor. Thanks for sharing it!
